Discover Tuscany!, Issue #025-- "Real Thing" Issue!
November 17, 2009

Discover Tuscany! is a FREE occasional Newsletter dedicated to helping you get the best from your holiday in Tuscany.

Summer time in Britain, don’t you just love it! – I seem to remember summer happened this year between 2:30 and 3:12 on June 3, it then returned to “proper” summer weather (i.e. steady drizzle) for the next three months. I know the holiday posters in the 60’s proudly boasted “Skegness is Bracing” but be honest, does the idea of spending the first two weeks in July getting sandblasted by force 8 gales really do it for you?

No, of course, it doesn’t!

So, what’s the answer? Tuscany – that’s what.

Casually drop into the conversation, “we’re off to a villa in Tuscany for our holidays, this year”, then stand back and wait for the “ohh fantastic’s and can I come too’s!

“We’re off to Cleethorpes again this year” just doesn’t get the same reaction.

So what has Tuscany got to offer that makes it so special?

These days, it seems that anywhere with a couple of rolling hills and a few terracotta pots claims to be ”just like Tuscany” or even “the new Tuscany”.

Nope! believe me, there is only one.

It’s a place with scenery so breathtaking that you’ll find yourself inexplicably stopping the car just to stare at the Tuscan sunset. Val d’Orcia near Siena has even been named a Unesco World Heritage site for its stunning landscapes. Sure, you can admire beautiful scenery in a photograph but believe me when I tell you that Tuscany has to be “felt” with all your senses. The warm summer evenings, the smell of wild rosemary and lavender, the mouth watering aromas of hand made, Tuscan pasta with fresh herbs, the delicious taste of Tuscany’s world famous wines. True, these are most defiantly not hi-tech, fast paced attractions – they are simple, relaxing, authentic pleasures, this is after all “La Dolce Vita”, to be savoured over a glass of Chianti!

One of the best ways to really enjoy authentic Tuscany with your family or friends is by renting a villa set in the Tuscan countryside.
