Tuscan Coast

Tuscany is world famous for its rolling hills and fields of sunflowers, but there is also another, albeit less well known side to Tuscany - The Tuscan Coast.
There are miles and miles of long sandy beaches along the coast, many of which have been awarded the coveted "Blue Flag" for the cleanliness of the water and beaches. The area is perfect for families, it's safe for swimming and the ice cream is great!. The coastline in Tuscany has lots of sporting facilities including sailing, windsurfing, kite surfing, fishing and sub aqua. For those who'd rather take it easy, there are boat trips out to the local islands and the local food and wine are superb. The area is close to Pisa Airport and the walled city of Lucca and only an hour from Florence. If you’d prefer to stay in or near a town then choose a villa or apartment near Pisa, Viareggio or Forte dei Marmi. Although there are some luxury villas in this area, most family accommodation along the Coastal areas is simple and functional and usually built more recently (i.e. don't expect many 15th century farmhouses on the beach), making it ideal for a relaxing holiday near the beach, remember, most of the time you are outdoors. Many also have a swimming pool, garden and bbq for "al fresco" dining after a long day soaking up the warm Tuscan sun.
