Castello di Modanella is a medieval castle located right in the heart of rolling Tuscan countryside south of Siena. It has views over estate vineyards, countryside and woodland. The castle itself is located in the original hamlet with the central point being the castle, which has a courtyard and garden.There is a church just across from the castle and several apartments around it. There are various farmhouses located around the estate grounds, most with views back over to the castle. The nearest village is Serre di Rapolano.
It is within easy reach of Siena (40 mins) and is close to several nearby spa towns. It is a great location for exploring the beautiful landscape south of Siena with its spectacular scenery, thermal springs and hilltop villages.

Castello di Modanella is a medieval castle in the centre of a tiny hamlet, which includes a church and original school. It nestles right in the heart of the countryside south of the renaissance city of Siena. The castle dates as far back as the 12th century when it belonged to the noble Cacciacanti family. It then passed to the Piccolomini family who then owned the castle for several hundred years. Standing in the central castle courtyard you get a feeling of stepping back in time to centuries long past.

All the farmhouses on the estate have kept their original names, that often come from the jobs that their owners did around the estate. There are 46 different apartments located around the castle itself and many others within stone farmhouses around the estate grounds nearby, all within 1 km of the castle. The apartments have been restored using traditional materials including chestnut beams and terracotta floors.
There is also one detached house, which sleeps 16 set in its own private gardens with a large private pool.

This large estate extends over 645 hectares. In the past the mulberry trees made it a perfect location for the production of silk and many of the buildings were workshops and warehouses used in the production of this luxury product. There are pretty views to the countryside and surrounding woodland and vineyards and all the apartments have the use of a pool and garden either outside the apartment or nearby. It is 6 kms from Serre di Rapolano the nearest village for shops.

There is the original village church just beside the castle, the castle courtyard and gardens and the castle itself has function rooms that can be used for meetings, conferences, events and ceremonies.
