Castello Chianti dates back to the 11th century and appears in documents held at the nearby Coltibuono Abbey. Originally a monastery and located in the heart of Chianti today the castle is a four star hotel with 37 rooms. It has been restored with great care and attention to detail and is located right in the heart of rolling Tuscan countryside south of Siena.
Castello Chianti is within easy reach of Florence and Siena and is right in the heart of Chianti with its many wonderful hilltop villages, breathtaking landscapes and some of the most famous vineyards in the world. The local village is just at the bottom of the hill and has several local shops as well as a variety of restaurants.

Castello Chianti
The church here dates back to the 11th century and appears in documents held at the nearby Coltibuono Abbey. The castle is built around a central courtyard adjacent to the church. It was built originally in this form to provide defence from the battling Florentines intent on stealing it from the Sienese during the Middle Ages.

For many years it was a monastery hence its beautifully simple architecture. The whole property is built in local stone and has been restored with great care retaining many of its original features as in the peep hole through to the church altar from one of the bedrooms once used by the abbot and the many original oak doors, chestnut beams and terracotta floors throughout the hotel. Located just above a village it is close to local shops and restaurants.
Today the castle is a luxury hotel with 37 rooms. It has beautiful views over estate vineyards, rolling countryside and woodland.

The hotel has 8 Double Rooms, 7 Superior Doubles, 13 Deluxe Doubles as well as 6 Junior Suites and 2 Senior Suites. All are elegantly furnished with antique Tuscan furniture and many have four poster beds and Jacuzzi bathtubs. All rooms have air conditioning, satellite TV, mini bar and telephone. Well-trained staff are available to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

There is a top class restaurant and lunch or dinner is served either indoors during cooler months or in summer meals are served outside in the pretty central courtyard, where table and chairs are set out around the well. In the morning a buffet breakfast is served on the terrace overlooking the garden in summer months.

There are large gardens with tall elegant cypress trees, lavender that perfumes the air and roses climbing over pretty pergolas that line the walkway to the spa center where you can relax in the sauna, Turkish bath or treat your self to an invigorating massage. There is an indoor heated pool next to the spa center with large glass picture windows with views over the garden and an area with chairs and loungers. Adjacent to the spa center is a well- equipped gym. There is also an outdoor pool set in the large gardens and just below the castle itself. There are wonderful views over the estate vineyards and to the hills opposite. There are many other facilities including a tennis court, billiard room
